Akranes – 28.january 2015 – Aurora Forecast KP1
On this night it really did not look like much was going on, the aurora forecast’s showed little to no activity.
I had to go to Akranes that night for work and like usually my camera gear was with me (Akranes is north-west from Reykjavik – about 30 minutes by car.)
On my way back I stopped the car not far from the town to check the aurora forecast’s on my phone, it looked like a small shift was happening on the geomagnetic field.
I decided to get ready incase something was on the way and as soon as I left the car I saw a faint line of aurora forming on the horizon so I scrambled to set up,
The reason why I stopped on this particular spot was because I thought that small building would look good in the foreground of a shot.
Before I was ready the sky got active and I managed to mess up a few photographs by rushing a bit too much 🙂 I managed to get a few that
I liked however and the one above is one of them. After I got this shot I moved to another location but by then the show was dying down so I decided to head home.
This display of the northern lights lasted in total less than one hour, and that can happen sometimes so it pays off to at least get one photograph under the belt as soon as there is a chance,
and then maybe try to find a better foreground because a half decent photo is always better than no photo at all 🙂
The settings for this photograph were:
- Camera: Canon Eos 6D
- Lens: Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC
- ISO 800
- 38mm
- f/2,8
- 3,2 sec exposure time
- Post Processing in Lightroom
