When all things fall in place, magic happens!
On the night of November 18th 2015 a coronal mass ejection (CME) hit us and sparked amazing lights anywhere we looked in the sky.
A solar flare is a light-speed traveling burst of x-rays and energy, while a coronal mass ejection is a giant cloud of particles emitted from the Sun.
Both can affect the Earth in different ways and sometimes they happen together. That night we had a mix of both solare flare and a coronal mass ejection.
On this night the skies were clear, activity was good plus we had the coronal mass ejection and best of all, the company was great!
In the panorama above you can see the whole sky from Þingvellir to Reykjavik city, to get some perspective of the size of the image,
the moon is the small bright ball on the right side of the photo.
Above is the view to the other side, also a multiphoto panorama, the truck is about as beefed up as they get but looks tiny in the vast space we see here.
The road we took to Þingvellir, Icelands main national park.
Here me and my very good friend Gilli guide are discussing where to go next, endless options to chose from on a clear night like this.
Gilli Guide is a professional tour guide and often refferred to as the northen lights wisperer as he has a way of finding the lights on his tours when most fail.
The photo above is one of my favorites from the night, showing a mix of solar flare and a coronal mass ejection.
It was very cold that night and allways nice to jump back in the car after a successful photo session.
Above is a photo taken straight up towards the coronal mass ejection, one of many frames used in a timelapse video after that night.
One last view back to Reykjavik, the moon just about to set behind the horizon and we are ready to get back home after an amazing evening.
I will finish this blog with this short video made from over a thousand images taken on this trip.
