Reykjavik – Northern Lights Forecast Kp2
Here we have a sculpture in walking distance from down town Reykjavik by Jón Gunnar Árnason called Loftfarið or The Sun Voyager.
I recommend heading over there and get some pictures even if there are no northern lights around, it is a very beautiful piece of art.
The night I took this photograph the northern lights forecast showed Kp2,
I think it did actually go up to 3 and 4 over a period since we need decent activity to see them in the city.
It was almost 2 am in November 2014 and I had been to a few places in Reykjavik and got some shots that I was happy with,
but there was something about this photo that got my attention.
Even though I had to do a bunch of post processing to bring down the light pollution –
specially from the left hand side since the city central is just out of frame.
I did however really like how the northern lights were like a wave behind the ship and gave it an even more mystical look.
Here are the settings for that photograph:
- Northern Lights Forecast – Kp2 (spiked to 3-4, its only a forecast after all 🙂 )
- Camera: Canon Eos 6D Full Frame
- Lens: Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC
- ISO 400
- 27mm
- f/2,8
- 5 second exposure time
- Post Processing in Lightroom
Here is the location of the sculpture
