Roadtrip 17.mars 2015 – Solar storm with Aurora Forecast of KP8
Finally we had an awesome forecast and clear skies at the same time!
Around 15:00 on that day a very large solar storm hit earth and stirred up a lot of aurora activity.
Me and my friends waited for darkness with anticipation and we even saw the northern lights long before it was dark.
The two photos above and below this text are the view that waited for us when we arrived in Þingvellir, one of Icelands national parks.
Information about these photos
- Camera: Canon Eos 6D
- Lens: Samyang 14mm 2,8
- ISO 1600
- f/2,8
- 20 sec exposure time
- Post Processing in Lightroom
Here the Northern lights were moving very slowly and that made it possible to use a long shutter speed to get the foreground in as well.
20 seconds on a full frame camera with a 14mm lens is the maximum time I’d suggest, any longer and star trails start to become a problem.
This photo below is my favorite from the night.
It is not far from Þingvellir but I think I will not give the exact location online since this is a sensitive area.
If you need advice on where to go for shots like this then feel free to contact me and we will work it out 🙂
